I like what you are saying here. For me,the context for carrying out the Great Commission mandate is the Great Commandment. The intersection of Great Commission and Great Commandment is the place where the body of Christ's agency of change explodes with dynamic power. It's the intersection of "go" and "love" - by the way, the same intersection made manifest in the incarnation - where influence is maximized and authority most fully exercised. You can read my article on this subject at http://lifelinetoledo.com/articles/80-steve-north, and click on "Meet Me at the Intersection."

Variety is good because it reduces boredom and introduces new ideas. But if there is only variety, then effectiveness and mastery become impossible. The trick is to supplement focus with just enough variety to prevent burnout and discover new frontiers. Way easier said than done.

I like what Steve Jobs had to say about it:
"That's been one of my mantras - focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it's worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains."

I never reply to blogs, but this one caught my attention. I guess because I have a strong opinion about this.

I think the correct answer goes both ways. Paradox. For some people, we need to have various life experiences in order to keep going. Notice I said we! For others, having a few things in life is plenty or even too much.

I want to do it all! I want to know a little bit about everything! For me personally, it gives the variety I crave. But beyond that, I have always felt like it allows me to "become all things to all people". It helps me relate. It helps me understand people better, thus, helping me communicate to them better.

This don't work for everyone, and I wouldn't try to push it on them. But I tend to focus when I need to focus and get the job done, and done well if I do say so myself! Then, I like to live the adventure and see all I can see!

That's just me. Always has been and I guess always will be!

Focus. This is a real good subject for us men in general. I seem to have always had too many things going on that it would be hard to finish each task. When it comes to my Family life, it was much the same. I think it is best to pick a few things that all the Family enjoys and concentrate on making that top priority. Women on the other hand seem to be focused and get things done and have a good time, with quality time left over. Good luck with this one and enjoy your Wife and Boys.
P.S. Scientist say Men only use half of our brains, that may be the real source of our problems.
