What a shot!

I took the time, earlier this week, to play a round of golf at Calvert City Country Club with a few good friends of mine. I was walking, carrying my bag… not to mention, playing pretty badly that day. (I was 7 over on two back to back holes.) And that’s what I would like to be scoring on an entire 18 hole round. So, not much to talk about concerning my score that day.

But then I hit this tee shot on #7.

Hole #7 on the front 9 of Calvert City County Club has a reputation. Its certainly the most challenging par 3 on that course. It has led many players to shout obscenities, break clubs and thoroughly miss out on the enjoyment of a good day of golf.

It is rare to par the hole and certainly even more rare to have a birdie on it.

That’ is what makes this T shot so special. Its the best tee shot I’ve ever had on this hole. And I’ve been playing CCCC since I was 8 years old.

I walked up, looked closely, and tapped the put in for a birdie!

Too bad it was my second tee shot. The first one went in the water in front of the tee Box.

Score 4 on that par 3 once again.

Sometimes you have to look for the positive in order to see it… lol

4RC Calvert’s new facility… just in time for Easter

Got to spend the better part of the day with Calvert Associate Campus Pastor Ross Howard, Worship Leader Terry Freeman, Calvert River Kids Coordinator Leah Lummus, 4RC Tech Director Zach Bishop & my wife lovely Stephanie.

We did a great deal of technical work on the new 4RC Calvert facility. We hung big screens, ran lots of cable, worked on accent lighting, etc.

In fact, when I left, Ross & Terry were hanging doors in the River Kids area.

This weekend Dale Totten is planning on hanging the new sign on the front of the building.

4RC River Kids Director Sharon Stinson and her River Group will be working on the new middle school ministry room.

Loads of work going on.

Just in time for our weekend Easter services on Saturday, Sunday & Monday.

Check FourRiversChurch.com for all Easter worship times & locations.

I found one!

20120404-120659.jpg

I have a collection of newspapers from the Paducah Sun & the Lexington Herald that we’re printed after each of UK’s national championship wins. But yesterday, I just forgot to pick one up.

But I found one.

The Paducah Sun still has a few copies of yesterday’s paper for sale. So I grabbed a few for me and the boys.

I find so mug joy in my hobbies. Mountain Biking, running, NCAA basketball, fishing, music, boating, camping… etc. These feel like gifts from God to me. And I am learning how to enjoy and be more and more at peace with life.

These memories will always be there. And hopefully, my sons will develop similar loves for things that bring joy like these do in my life.

I am teaching this week, Holy Week, at 10 different worship gatherings in Paducah, Calvert City & Eddyville on a similar topic.

Are you a happy person? Is your joy only momentary? Does it come as go or does your happiness stay even when things are hard?

This is the focus this Easter at Four Rivers Church.

Free Kids Toys/Books/Videos

20120403-111933.jpg

We have been cleaning out a few rooms at 4RC’s Paducah Campus as we move things around into our new facility in Calvert City. Today we discovered some clean kids toys and videos that aren’t being used regularly by the church.

These could be a real blessing to some families with small kids.

We need the space for other things right now. But these are good things that I’m sure someone could use. So…

If you would like to take some of this stuff home for free be at 4RC’s Wednesday night gathering in Paducah tomorrow night at 5:30. We will open it up after church and you can grab what you would like to take home.

Please let me know you are coming by making a comment here if possible.

If you are with another church or children’s library let me know that as well.

New 4RC Calvert City Facility

20120329-194504.jpg

After another day putting some finishing touches on the new 4RC Calvert City, I am so excited about this weekend. A team of 4 (20 something) young men, a few 4RC staff and some other local members of the Calvert campus made it all happen.

I’m so thankful for everyone who has worked on this facility. You are far too many to name. But you know who you are and I am truly thankful for your personal investment in all that God is doing in 4RC.

There is another work day this Saturday at 10 am. We still need to hang the big front sign, do some serious clean up & finish a few other big projects.

Please consider being there to help on Saturday.

Then, be there on Sunday morning at 9:15 & 11 to worship Christ & celebrate all that God is doing as we move into the new facility!

So how does Four Rivers Church reach 1000 people?

Ever since I cast the vision of reaching 1000 people through the Easter season, I’ve had a solid line of questions ultimately asking, “How in the world are we going to do that?”

Here is how…

1. First and formost, this is about God. We are not going to go out and reach 1000 people ‘for’ God. We are going to reach 1000 people ‘with’ God.

In other words, when this is all said and done, reaching this many people will be something that He did through and in us.

And although the target seems to be external… Reaching 1000 people in a church of 500 people… I believe the biggest goal here is ‘internal.’

God is going to build your faith ad capacity for BIG vision. God is going to make us less intimidated and more bold. That’s all ‘in’ us.

He will do this by reaching a huge number of people through us. But the ultimate greatest value next week will not be what happens through us… It will be what happens in us. So be open to being changed internally by Jesus.

2. Secondly, we are going to join why He is doing by 3 ultimate things.

A. Pray. Pray like it all depends on Him. Ultimately it does. Without a move of God it will not happen. Let’s be a prayerful people. Surprise yourself, your spouse, your friends, etc by how much you pray for this.

B. Bring. Consider who you know and have connection with that is unchurched. Think an pray about bringing them. And then do it. Invite, cast vision, encourage, be excited… Let’s bring hundreds of people to these gatherings. You may personally end upcoming to 2 or 3 gatherings because of all the folks you bring.

Use email, Facebook, twitter, snail mail, corded rotary phones, yell over the fence, share at the work coffee pot…

Whatever you have to do to join God through inviting and bringing…

We will offer some support with radio ads and invite cards.

C. Serve. This Sunday you will hear all about how you can serve. Just do what you can willingly.

That’s how Four Rivers reaches 1000 people through the Easter season.

Easter Week at Four Rivers Church

You may have heard by now that Four Rivers Church is hoping and expecting to connect with 1000 or more people this year during the week leading up to Easter Sunday.

If you have hoped to experience a worship gathering but have been unable than this week is for you. If it’s been too long since you’ve connected with Jesus at a church gathering… this week is for you.

And for those who may have mistook Four Rivers for another congregation in the past… We do not meet in the Carson Center. That is a church called Faith Center that is led by Pastor John Aitken.

Live the Mission

Hey friends,

This email was from Debbie Dean of the 4RC Paducah campus. This is what we mean by ‘Living The Mission…”

From: Debbie streetman [mailto:wwjd37us@yahoo.com]

Ok, ladies and gentleman, I am in need of some help. I am working with Stephanie Daniel, of Beyond the Gate Ministry, better known as “tent city.” After seeing a stroy on channel 6 news about the Salvation Army sending couples and people with children to live in the woods in tent city. Oh my goodness, can i tell you how heartbroken I was when i read this, I knew that i needed to do something to help.

I contacted Stephanie and thank the Lord the couple with the children andone on the way has a place to go, however, a young couple has no where to go and I am giving them a place until a shelter opens up.

Here in lies the problem, I have the room for them to stay but i am not sure how much i can provide for other things. They are going to be in need of clothing and food. I am also in the process of trying to find the man a job and helping the lady to get her GED and maybe a job also.

We need air matresses, blankets, food and toiletries and anything else that will make them comfortable. i feel that God has led me to do this and I am going to be my part of the body of christ.

If there is anyway you can help out please let me know. I am going to talk to them tomorrow and get them to come home with us, as long as that is something they want to do. I wanted to email with this information as soon as possible so if you can help you can email me back.

Thanks for any help you can be and remember we are all part of the body of Christ and need to help out.

Debbie

How great things are…

Have you realized how great things are at Four Rivers Church right now? We really are living some of the ‘good ole day’s right now. Make sure you don’t miss it.

I’ve spent the day with pastors, church planters and coaches… They represent some of the coolest and most healthy churches that i know of… and any of them would be proud to be a regular part of 4RC.

So let’s thank God together. Lets join together more and more in following Christ to Connection & Transformation… let’s love one another more than ever… and let’s work together to change our surrounding communities with the gospel of Jesus.

We now come to the end of a good year and the beginning of a GREAT one. Can you see it?

You can get a good man down… but its hard to keep him there.

I posted on Facebook today that I was having a particularly frustrating day. And many people responded with encouragement and love. Thank you so much for that.

I don’t want to be scary or sound pitiful in any way. So don’t take this too harshly. For the most part, life is amazing for me & I have millions of things for which to be thankful.

But occasionally I have a bad, bad day. The way it works is that it usually occurs right after some sort of minor success. Like maybe some new sermon series came together well or we redecorated a worship space and it looks great or maybe we helped launch a new River Group. You would think that I would be sky high at those moments.

But what happens is that I start refocusing on the bigger vision… beyond the minor success… and I get overwhelmed. I start thinking things like… “there is just no way…” or “I don’t think that is possible.” And then my faith is tested. I have to ask myself one more time whether or not I believe.

And honestly, I’m not always an extremely “faith filled” person. I have faith… don’t get me wrong. But most of the time the faith that I have is a gift from God, because it didn’t come from my flesh. Left to myself, I tend to give up and quit pretty quickly.

But because of the renewing power of the Spirit of God… He has rebuilt faith in me countless numbers of times. And it usually begins with a bad day.

Henry Blackaby calls this experience a “Crisis of Belief.” And a ‘crisis’ it definitely is.

If you don’t know at all what I”m writing about… maybe you haven’t followed God to dangerous enough places to meet the crisis moments. Maybe you need to consider giving more, serving harder or risking everything. Its really only in those moments that you meet God in the crisis. And when you meet him in a crisis… you really get to know Him on a more intimate level.

I’m thankful for the crisis moments… even though I hate them while they are going on. Because I meet God in the crisis… in the struggle… in the pain.

Today my crisis has to do with Four Rivers Church. It is such a great church. But we still have so far to go. There are literally thousands of unreached people. There are hundreds of communities that need a life giving church or campus of 4RC. There are millions of hours of service to our community that need to be done.

And sometimes it feels like we never have enough money, people, leadership, resources, etc.

With one hand I celebrate the vision God has given me… and with the other I cover my head thinking that it is far beyond what we will ever accomplish.

Fear, anger, frustration, weakness all have the potential to set in at those moments.

But then… just when I least expect it… God shows up. And I meet God in the crisis of belief.

And that is cool!

So, as best I can tell. As long as I’m leading, growing and risking in my relationship with Jesus… there will be crisis… but there will also be an ever increasing amount of ‘belief.’

Thoughts?
