Remember Celebration Easter Sermon

Are you happy? I mean, are you really happy? This teaching on the Spiritual Discipline of Celebration deals with living a life of inner and true joy. I hope its helpful.

I found one!

I have a collection of newspapers from the Paducah Sun & the Lexington Herald that we’re printed after each of UK’s national championship wins. But yesterday, I just forgot to pick one up.

But I found one.

The Paducah Sun still has a few copies of yesterday’s paper for sale. So I grabbed a few for me and the boys.

I find so mug joy in my hobbies. Mountain Biking, running, NCAA basketball, fishing, music, boating, camping… etc. These feel like gifts from God to me. And I am learning how to enjoy and be more and more at peace with life.

These memories will always be there. And hopefully, my sons will develop similar loves for things that bring joy like these do in my life.

I am teaching this week, Holy Week, at 10 different worship gatherings in Paducah, Calvert City & Eddyville on a similar topic.

Are you a happy person? Is your joy only momentary? Does it come as go or does your happiness stay even when things are hard?

This is the focus this Easter at Four Rivers Church.

A Demanding Pace of Leadership Demands A Peaceful Pace of Life

20120316-164738.jpg

Today was a beautiful day. And I was especially blessed because the boys were out of school. So I had an entire day with them.

We rode bikes, watched Swamp Men, and wet a line.

I used to really mess this kind of day up. I would be so focused on work that I would work right through an opportunity like this. But then I hit bottom emotionally a few years ago and realized that the demand for leadership productivity from me required me to indulge in more rest, meditation, quiet and ultimately time unplugged from leading.

Well, kind of…

I mean, I was certainly leading today. I taught Jackson how to hold a catch & release a large mouth bass. I taught Bradon how to fish with a top water lure. I’m sure that counts as leading in my family.

But I unplugged from the pressures of work.

Now, I’m still a believer in hard work. Some will use my words as a tool to endorse a lazy approach to work.

That’s absolutely not what I mean.

I am learning that… just like Jesus… if I expect to lead well when I am plugged in with my ‘game face on…’. I must learn to unplug, relax and enjoy the family and friends who are closest to me in life.

Today was a good day.

And next week will be even better because of it.

What’s your story?

Do you have a conversion story?

Here is what I mean… If you are a Christ follower, then you have a valuable story. There is a ‘gospel’ about your life. And some people overlook those valuable stories.

Maybe your story involves great sin and therefore great forgiveness and renewal. Maybe you learned Jesus wrongly, and your story involves relearning or even unlearning Christ, and he reintroduced himself in a more real and true way. Or maybe your story is about the faith of your family that directly modeled and implanted the Christian experience directly into you. You may not even remember when ‘faith’ began, because it’s always been there.

Whatever your story, tell it. Share it! Maybe you could begin here.

Im so happy right now…

I’m as happy as I ever remember being. Thanks to everyone who helped me find my joy again. It feels like the last few years have been one improvement in life after another, overall. The occasional tough time may have been blended in… but life as a whole is beautiful. And tonight is a happy night!

Are you free? The ministries of Lifeline & Ladies Living Free

Again today, I had the privilege of spending a great deal of time with some of the men of Lifeline (a Christian ministry to men & women with life controlling issues.). It was a blessing.

As I spend time with Jeff, Ray and Cody I am reminded of the power of redemption. We don’t always have to be addicted, broken and alone…

Jesus and His Church are committed to changing lives. Lives are changed every day. Thank you Jesus. Thank you church.

These guys are testimonies to the power of God in a repentant and contrite person’s life.

So what is your story of redemption? Write here how Jesus has changed you…

Share your meaningful spiritual experiences here…

Hey Friends,

I’m opening up a spot on my blog for you to share your meaningful spiritual experiences. I’d love to hear from you or read your story. Maybe there is someone else who needs to read your writing. So think about it. Ponder the idea. Then let yourself go. Open up. Tell the story of how God blessed you, cared for you, opened your eyes, spared you from harm, taught you a lesson or provided for a great need. We are all looking forward to reading about it.
