Reason for the Season(s)

Welcome back! I hope everyone truly had a Merry Christmas. By now the gifts have been opened, the wrapping paper has been tossed, and the presents have found a nook in our homes. We’ve survived another Christmas!

But have you noticed this year has been a little different? I heard a news report on the radio regarding the increased use of the word “Christmas.” It seems the phrase “Merry Christmas” may not be as taboo as it once was. Believe it or not, they even mentioned Paducah’s decision to drop the “Holiday Parade” in favor of the original “Christmas Parade.” Perhaps we’ve made some progress in putting Christ back in Christmas.

But Christmas is over. Now what? Do we wait until next Christmas before we mention the word Christ again? We learned from Brad’s Advent Conspiracy series to not merely survive another Christmas season but to celebrate and worship Christ by living his example to others in need. Now that Christmas has passed, will the lessons from our Advent Conspiracy fade from our memory? We’ve conspired to make Christmas mean something again. How about we now conspire to make our Christian lives do the same all year round?

With Christmas now over, I hear the wise men’s question ringing in my ears — where is the newborn king of the Jews? We’ve found him in Christmas once again. Will others find him in our lives the remaining 364 days of the year?

I guess what I’m trying to say is let’s keep Christ in Christians.

Live The Mission,

Greg
