Decisions and Choice

My choice is you, God, first and only. And now I find I’m your choice! You set me up with a house and yard. And then you made me your heir!       Psalms 16:5-6 (Message)

The new year is almost here. Out with 2010; in with 2011.

Whether we realize it or not the coming year will arrive pre-loaded with new decisions to make. Every situation we’ll find ourselves in will present us with these decisions. They will be waiting for us in every encounter we have, every new person we meet, and every situation we step into. Whether we are with a large group of others or completely by ourselves, decisions will find us.

But with each decision that crosses our path comes the birth of something brand new in our lives — a choice. We can open doors or close them. We can shut people out or bring people in. We can demonize others or love them. We can choose not to see or choose to take action. We can challenge ourselves to advance the Kingdom or choose to leave the bar so low success is meaningless. We can choose to live the mission or a safe Christian life.

The choices we make at every decision in 2011 will determine where we find ourselves in 2012. Some choices will represent the easy way out and will mean our work is done. Unfortunately they will also put us in no better position than where we are now. Other choices will be harder but will lead us to places in 2012 we didn’t even know existed in 2011.

You will have decisions to make all through the coming year. Use God’s word and his Spirit to choose well.

Live The Mission,

Greg
