Good way to serve in the city of Paducah

I received this email earlier today. Thought that someone out there would want to know about it. This looks like a good way to serve those in need in the Western Kentucky area.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Hi, my name is Pat McLoughlin with the Midtown Alliance of Neighbors. I wanted to let you know about our Repair Affair work day on Saturday, May 7th. We have 13 low-income families lined up who need help in a variety of ways.

The Midtown Alliance of Neighbors hosts Repair Affair volunteer-led work days twice a year to help elderly, disabled, and other low-income families in the Paducah area with most critical home repairs. The families we are helping this spring are, as always, a really nice group of folks. But this valuable work can only be done with the help of caring people.

Please pass along to anyone you know, our heartfelt invitation to come out and give a little time to help our neighbors. You’ll find attached a list of the houses we’ll be working on and the work we hope to accomplish on and around the 7th.

People should know this: Whatever your skill level is, we need your help. You’ll see that we need skilled carpenters to head up several jobs and semi-skilled folks and just those who are willing to take direction to help out on these or other jobs.

If you know much about plumbing, there are several houses that have leaking pipes. We also have several houses that need some fascia work and help replacing or reattaching gutters. Also, if you are a carpenter or handyman, we need to replace a door and window and fix several other crooked doors. Even if you are not trained in a specific trade we have some touch up work to do to houses such as scraping, painting, and yardwork. We’ll also need help in the kitchen fixing lunch for the workers and in doing clean up.

I hope that you can pass this message on to anyone in your congregation who you think would be interested in signing up. If you are interested in signing up or want more information, please email me. You can also give Sharon Poat a call at 442-8947 or 556-0826.

On Saturday the 7th, we’ll meet at 7:30 am for breakfast and registration at Fountain Avenue United Methodist Church, 300 Fountain Avenue. From there we’ll head to the work sites. Volunteers can stay for as much of the day as they desire.

*Any individuals or groups who are interested in helping out but can’t make the May 7th work day should give us a call. We’d love to arrange something to fit any schedule. 🙂

God bless.

Pat McLoughlin
