I have recently become a real fan of a new worship song that you may hear played and sung at Four Rivers Church. Singing this song is such a personal experience to me. And I am moved every time I think of it. Here are the lyrics…

God I Look to You
Jenn Johnson/Ian Mcintosh Bethel Music Publishing 2010

God I look to You, I won’t be overwhelmed
Give me vision to see things like You do
God I look to You, You’re where my help comes from
Give me wisdom; You know just what to do

I will love You Lord my strength
I will love You Lord my shield
I will love You Lord my rock forever
All my days I will love You God

Hallelujah our God reigns
Hallelujah our God reigns
Hallelujah our God reigns forever
All my days Hallelujah

This song describes a type of faith that can be scary, frustrating and even dangerous. And honestly, I don’t think many believers are willing to risk climbing to this place in their walk with God.

Have you ever followed Christ to a place where you feel overwhelmed? Have you ever trusted Him enough to follow Him to places that are scary? If not, you are missing some amazing things about walking with Christ.

It is one thing to escape being overwhelmed by being safe. It is another thing entirely to follow Christ into the dark places ahead and find rest knowing that He has you.

Its in the most intimidating of moments of obedience that you really get to know Christ.

I have lived the last 12 years of my life in some very scary places. I find myself regularly tempted to give in to an overwhelmed feeling. Sometimes its hard to breathe.

But its in those moments that I realize Christ is so much more powerful that I am. Its in those moments that I find rest in Him. Its in those moments that I am forcefully reminded of who is in control.
